Tunic: How to defeat the Librarian

Once you've ascended The Great Library, you'll meet its guardian, the Librarian, who is suitably called. This sword-wielding boss flies through the air, casting spells and summoning shadowy foes to cause you trouble. Here's how to retaliate and triumph.

To begin, there is one thing you should not do: grasp the boss with the Magic Orb and tug it down to your level. You'll only be able to make one assault before being countered by a sword slash. Save your magic for the Fire Orb, which may be used to pelt the boss with blazing assaults while it hovers above you. If you have the correct perk loaded, the monsters it summons can drop echoes to replenish your magic meter; otherwise, Blue Fruits will suffice.

The Librarian's summoned opponents are simply one of his tactics, and they may be easily defeated in a few strikes if you act quickly enough before the boss casts further spells. A quick bolt that zips across the screen, which you can avoid by rolling to the side, is one of them.

A strip of damaging miasma is also cast in the same way, but it lingers on the ground for a short while. Like the other spell, dodge rolls away from it, but be careful not to walk on the dark pool while it's still active. The final spell summons a swarm of black orbs that appear, pause for a moment, and then converge on you one by one. As they crisscross the rooftop, keep moving to avoid them.

When it comes to sword assaults, the Librarian has two main options. The first is a slash, which propels it across the battlefield. To avoid receiving damage, roll to the side like you would for the spells. The boss, on the other hand, will fly high into the sky and become charged with lightning. When this happens, look for an indicator on the ground that indicates where the boss will land and which way it will face.

Stay a few feet back to avoid being zapped, then charge in from the back or sides to do some damage of your own. This is your best chance to retaliate. When the boss comes down to your level, he may attack with the sword if you're right up on it, so be ready to avoid or block it as well.

Waiting at the right moment to hit the Librarian is the most challenging part of this fight. Pelt it as much as you can with the Fire Orb, and make your sword attacks count when you have the chance. The Librarian will eventually fold.
