Tunic: How to get the Magic Dagger

You might be wondering if there's more to the game than chopping and slicing by the time you arrive at Tunic's West Garden. Fortunately, there's plenty more to explore in this Zelda-inspired Soulslike, and the next important thing you should look into getting is your first magical item.

Despite its name, the Magic Dagger is more of a tool than a weapon. If you put it in one of your item slots, you'll be able to launch a short-range ice blast that will stop any foes in their tracks. You can then make use of the opportunity to get a few hits in or gain some distance to heal up and reorient yourself. Its use is limited by your MP meter (which appears after you use the item for the first time), and you'll only be able to use it three times when you pick it up, so choose wisely.

This mystical object can be found towards the end of the West Garden segment. Rather than heading north to face the Garden Knight, take the way to the east, to a small isolated island with a cave entrance, after locating the area's second shrine. Defeat the monsters along the way – the Chompignoms might bite if you're not careful — and enter the cave to collect your gift on a stone table within.

The Magic Dagger is a must-have item that should be obtained as quickly as possible. Though its usefulness varies in normal opponent encounters, it has the added benefit of working against bosses. Having a little breathing room in the impending combat with the Garden Knight could mean the difference between success and disaster, so make the most of it.
