Elden Ring: How to defeat Adan, Thief of Fire
Adan, Thief of Fire, is imprisoned in the Malefactors Evergaol on the southern shore of Liurnia of the Lakes, and he wields one of Elden Ring's most powerful spells: Flame of the Fell God. Adan, as an NPC boss, deals a lot of damage with all of his strikes, and if either of his Flame of the Fell God or O, Flame! spells connect, you're in for a lot of trouble. Adan does not have phases in the traditional sense of the Elden Ring but instead alternates between two fighting styles: magic and melee. He'll commonly cast Flame of the Fell God if you're at mid-range or further out from him.
It's rather simple to avoid the spell. Allow it to approach you, and when it flashes a stronger orange with a unique audible signal, wait two seconds before rolling away. The explosion occurs after the boom and flash, and the area of effect is larger than you may imagine.
Adan's use of O, Flame! is another spell to be aware of. He'll only use it if you're right in front of him, and the fireball he makes with a snap of his fingers reaches four or five feet in front of him and to his sides. If he catches you on the first cast, he'll nearly always follow up with a second, so roll backward as quickly as you can. O, Flame! is likely to reduce your health by 60% or more if you're facing him at level 40, which is a common level for Liurnia.
When Adan isn't casting magic at you, he'll run you down with a Flail outfitted with the Wild Strikes Ash of War. The damage is considerably beyond what an NPC of his level should be capable of, and even higher-level characters will lose 30% of their health bar in a single swing, like with his other attacks.
Flails, thankfully, have considerable range, so you may either out-space his swings to penalize whiffs or wait for him to resume casting. It's probably safer to punish his melee assaults, but he can swiftly switch between Flail and O, Flame!, so be careful. You'll get the Flame of the Fell God Incantation for defeating Adan, which takes 41 Faith to cast. It isn't fantastic in PvP, but with the right setup, including the Giant's Seal casting tool, it may cause a lot of havoc.
