Lost Ark: How to complete the A Nose for News quest
Lost Ark gamers are first led to the freezing and secluded Glacier Isle by Mathias of Stern's Hoyte News, where they uncover a filthy landscape buried in Toxic waste. This garbage, rumored to have floated north from Arthetine, is tracked back to the Origin of Stern, where Mathias offers to help by breaking a story about Arthetine's technological branch's corruption. The player is originally drawn to the oasis of Nebelhorn, whose adjoining lab is responsible for all of the water pouring into and out of Stern, by the leads within Arthetine. Yulia, the lab's director, notes that the oasis has recently been emitting unusually high-temperature readings and assigns the player the responsibility of scanning the area around the oasis with a Magick Flow Detector for anything unexpected.
For many gamers, the series of events that follow can be extremely difficult to navigate. While the region surrounding the oasis — and, by implication, the area of the map labeled as searchable by the quest — can be quite large, the Magick Flow Detector's range is much smaller. When you consider that the detector can only be utilized once every five seconds — not to mention all of the hostile adversaries roaming the mission area — the time spent attempting to find the "perfect" spot to deploy the detector can soon pile up. Here's where you can locate all of them.
Location 1: Ribs by the narrow pass
All of the correct places to plant the detector, as a general rule, are under some alarmingly jutting beast bones distributed near the oasis. The first position, laying near a smaller mound of bones, is no exception to this pattern.
2nd location: close to a spine
To the north of the tree that has settled in the center of the oasis, a much larger rib cage acts as a natural fence. However, because the placement of this detector can be tricky, players should target their cursor at the rightmost vertebra.
3rd location: beneath the waterfall
The waterfall to the north splashes down on yet another rib cage, which happens to be the third and last detection point. The detector will uncover a hidden employee of the technology division if players aim slightly to the left of the two innermost ribs.
When confronted and probed, the employee admits that the technologists directed him to work outside of Arthetine's administrative jurisdiction. Returning to Stern's municipal district with this information, the player enlists the help of Sasha, Arthetine's treasurer, to conduct an undercover investigation into the tech section. This completes A Nose for News and starts The Sickly Sea, the following task in Glacier Isle's questline.
