Stranger Things Season 4 Trailer Shows a New Villain for the First Time

The first half of Season 4 of Stranger Things premieres on Netflix on May 27. With the next season a little over a month away, a new trailer for the program has appeared. The latest season is full of twists and turns, as well as a new threat: one from the Upside Down. Hawkins' children are maturing, and some are drifting apart, particularly Eleven, who has moved away. This season picks up six months after the events of Battle of Starcourt (Season 3), as the pals are dragged back to the Upside Down as they begin high school.

There's a lot to absorb in this video, but the apparent human/monster hybrid creature that appears to be the season's major adversary stands out right away. His voiceover is heard at the beginning and finish of the trailer. We also show Max penning a letter to her brother Billy, who, at the end of last season, sacrificed himself to save several other characters and is now presumed dead.

We get further peeks into Eleven's background, while she still doesn't have her powers back at the start of the season, and all of the youngsters struggling to adjust to high school life. There's also a shot of Creel House in the Upside Down, as well as plenty of monster action - including Hopper battling a Demogorgon and Steve fending off assailants while shirtless.

Season 4 will have nine episodes in all, split into two halves, with Volume 2 premiering on July 1. The majority of the episodes will be written and directed by the Duffer Brothers, with Shawn Levy and Nimród Antal each directing two episodes. In the most recent season, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, and Joe Keery will all return their roles.

Last November, the episode names were published, and if you dig through them, you'll find some interesting information, including references to characters from the show and even an X-Men villain gang called The Hellfire Club. Stranger Things will conclude with Season 5, although there may be spin-offs in the future.
