Several people are shot at a subway station in Brooklyn. After early reports stated 13 people were hurt, several of them shot, during the morning rush, police were looking for a guy wearing a worker's vest and gas mask. According to police reports, a shooter wearing a gas mask and an orange construction vest dropped a smoke bomb into a southbound R train and then opened fire on passengers, hurting five people.

The chaos began just before 8:30 a.m. at the Sunset Park 25th St. station. According to NYPD sources, the man in the vest threw several smoke bombs into a train compartment as the doors closed and began firing. The doors opened as the train approached the 36th St. station, and the injured commuters collapsed on the platform, alarming those waiting for the train. Other witnesses said they saw wounded people, all adults, exiting the 36th and 25th Street subway stations.

During the Tuesday morning rush hour, many persons were shot on the platform of the 36th Street subway station, according to officials. A gas mask and an orange construction vest, probably an MTA vest, were mentioned as being worn by the gunman. He was also carrying tools for building.

On a complaint of smoke emanating from the railway station, firefighters were dispatched to the 36th St. station. When they arrived, they discovered "several people shot" as well as many unexploded smoke bombs, according to an FDNY source.

There were reports of smoke pouring from the station and "potential people shot," according to an NYPD official, but she had no further information. With caution, police and members of the NYPD Bomb Squad were moving to the location.
