Throughout the game, you will be building and developing a range of distinct looks for your creations. You might want some blocks with a bit more detail if you have a specific theme in mind or if you want to give your next project a bit more of a lived-in feel. This is when a tool such as the Recovery Compass comes in handy! In our simple step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the process of making one of them.

Creating a Recovery Compass

You'll need a standard compass and eight Echo Shards to construct a Recovery Compass in Minecraft. After you've gathered all of the supplies, use a crafting table to make the Recovery Compass. The first step is to create a standard Compass. Only four Iron Ingots and one piece of Redstone Dust are required. Place one of each of the Iron Ingots above, below, to the left and right of the dust in the center of your crafting table.

The difficult part is yet to come: you must locate a new resource known as the Echo Shard. This can only be discovered in an Ancient City's Deep Dark biome. If you can find a chest in this region, you might be able to find Echo Shards within. Due to the abundance of Sculk and the likelihood of spawning a Warden, this is clearly a deadly location! Not only may you acquire Echo Shards, but you also have a chance to get some Diamond Armor, so it might be worth the risk!

You'll be able to build your Recovery Compass once you've found all eight Echo Shards! Simply place the standard Compass in the center of your Crafting Table, surrounded by Echo Shards. The Recovery Compass is a useful little gadget that allows you to trace down the location of your last death. If you don't use mods, you're probably aware of how tough it is to get back to the point where you died. This will make it easier for you to locate the place and collect all of the loot you dropped!

It's worth noting that the Recovery Compass is presently only available in the Java Edition 1.19 development version of the game, thus it won't appear in fully published versions.
