Rod Wave has been accused of choking his girlfriend while kids were in same house

Rod Wave, a rapper from St. Petersburg, is accused of choking his ex-girlfriend while their two children were present, according to an arrest warrant made public this week. According to the arrest warrant document, the rapper, whose actual name is Rodarius Marcell Green, 23, faces a felony charge of domestic violence by strangulation in connection with the April 24 incident.

Deputies were dispatched to the Osceola County woman's house that day after receiving two 911 calls from her, in which she said Green had broken into her home and was physically assaulting her. The woman, whose identity has been withheld in court records, said she was sleeping in her bed when she heard the front door open and Green enter her room. According to his arrest complaint, he choked her until she couldn't breathe and accused her of talking to other guys. According to the complaint, he then departed her residence in his sport utility vehicle.

Green returned a second time, accusing the lady of stealing his smartphone, according to deputies. According to court records, he kicked storage shelves near the front door and took two portraits from the wall, throwing them on the front porch and sidewalk. He then left in his car. Deputies learned that the woman had been seeing Green for roughly four years and that they had two children together. She stated that the incident occurred in the children's own bedroom.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim suffered a scratch "around the left-center of her neck." She turned down medical help. Green was not found after law officers took images of her injuries and searched the area. Green was caught a week later during a traffic stop in St. Petersburg. On May 3, he was freed from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $5,000 bail. He has entered a no-contest plea to the accusation. Green's lawyer declined to comment on Wednesday.

The rapper grew up in the Cromwell Heights district of St. Petersburg. He began his musical career in high school and signed with Alamo Records, a startup label that was eventually acquired by Sony, in 2018. His song Heart on Ice broke the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020 after being successful on TikTok.

Green was also arrested in a high-profile incident in Atlanta two years ago. Green allegedly attacked a promoter after narrowly averting serious harm when a stage fell during a concert, according to police. In the event, he was charged with misdemeanor violence. In court, the case is still pending.
