No Man’s Sky: How to repair your Starship
Hello Games isn't making it easy for you with No Man's Sky's newest Expedition. Permadeath is not just a continual threat in your ongoing Leviathan adventures, but it's also actively encouraged as part of your progression! This first comes into play when you have to repair your damaged Starship, as we mentioned in our beginner tutorial, so prepare to die in order to save that ship...
How to die and return to the Leviathan Expedition
Your next mission is to repair the downed craft after you've found your ship and absorbed the first Memory Fragment. Most of the tasks (along with fixing the Terrain Manipulator on your Mining Tool) may be covered by early mining, but the only way to unlock the blueprint for the Hermetic Seal that you'll need to repair the Pulse Engine is to complete the Iterate/Repeat quest, which requires that you die – so ignore the rest of the repairs for now and prepare to do just that.
The simplest method is to use your jetpack to rocket straight up and then fall (ideally off a cliff for added damage). If that fails, there are some hostile locals who would be more than willing to assist you in reducing your health. Once you've died, you'll need to reload your most recently saved game to return to the planet and find your Starship. The good news is that you won't have to repeat anything, and collecting your fresh prizes from the Expedition menu will offer you a far better starting point, including access to the Hermetic Seal plans you'll now have.
In the Leviathan Expedition, learn how to repair your starship.
You can begin repairing your wrecked ship after you've absorbed all of your available new Memory Fragments, which should include a Scatter Blaster upgrade for your Multi-Tool. The Launch Thrusters require Pure Ferrite and Di-Hydrogen Jelly, which may be refined from Ferrite Dust using the Portable Refiner that comes pre-packed in your inventory, and the latter built into any vacant Exosuit slot for seasoned No Man's Sky players.
To repair the Pulse Engine, simply find some carbon to make Condensed Carbon and any leftover Ferrite Dust to manufacture a Metal Plate. The resources should all be easy to come by, though inventory management may be required to keep track of your supply. You should also keep in mind that your Starship contains some Life Support Gel to help with your health concerns, but it's never a bad idea to find some extra Oxygen sources just in case.
You'll be able to take off once all of the components are in place, with your next mission needing you to locate Specialist Polo aboard the Space Anomaly. Simply aim your ship's nose to the stars and power upwards until the Anomaly appears on the menu. Polo will be familiar to regulars of the main campaign, but newcomers should follow the HUD marker to the raised area straight ahead when they first arrive (Polo is the little guy on the right as you enter). He'll offer you a taste of the ongoing time-loop story and a variety of brand-new objects to go out and get, although collecting the rewards for your now-completed quest will help!
