Former Georgia police officer sentenced for January 6 attack on the Capitol

On Thursday, a former Pelham Police Department officer was sentenced for his role in the Capitol attack on Jan. 6. According to the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, Michael Shane Daughtry was sentenced to two months of home detention, 36 months of probation, $500 in restitution, 60 hours of community service, and the customary condition of no guns.

Daughtry brags on social media on the day of the attack, according to court filings, as he joins others in storming the Capitol. They also indicate that he spoke with another cop from the same department where he previously worked, claiming to be one of those "who tore down the barrier up there." We were the first ones to jump over the barbed wire. "Everyone was watching us." In addition, a photo of Daughtry among the audience was provided as proof of his participation.

Daughtry worked for the Pelham Police Department or the Camilla Police Department from 2002 until 2020, according to court filings. He was eventually fired, according to documents, in part because of Facebook posts about the armory firm he owned, Crazy Koon Armory. "Anyone needing an AR15 and some extra ammo before the election, I've got a couple left in stock... It may be your last chance if the election doesn't go right tomorrow! Let me know if you're interested."

Another stated, "When they finally start putting these Democrats in front of the firing squad for treason I hope they'll let me serve on the firing squad...I'll even bring my own ammo."

Since then, the store has been shut down. According to papers, Daughtry was charged on Jan. 12, 2021, and self-surrendered to the FBI in Macon on Feb. 19, the same year. Prosecutors believe Daughtry was at the Capitol building on Jan. 6, forcing his way through barricades and reaching the Capitol door, "but 'had to back off when law enforcement agents sprayed him with rubber bullets," according to court records. He was charged with illegally entering the Capitol grounds and other offenses.
