By no means is Mario Strikers: Battle League the most straightforward soccer game. Players take shots with their hands, the pitch is surrounded by an electric fence, and we've never seen a single yellow card issued, even when Toad is struck so hard that he flips a couple times in midair. The inclusion of a shot that is worth two points instead of one is perhaps the most significant modification to a typical soccer match: the Hyper Strike.

How to set up a Hyper Strike in Mario Strikers: Battle League

There are a few measures to follow if you want to pull off a successful Hyper Strike for yourself. First and foremost, you must keep a lookout for a Strike Orb. These are the bright orbs that float down onto the field from time to time, and they can be picked up by any team, so be quick. Your entire squad will glow whenever you pick up a Strike Orb, indicating that any of them can conduct a Hyper Strike. However, because this only lasts for a limited period, you'll have to be on the lookout for opportunities to shoot. Make sure you have plenty of room since you'll need to keep pressing the shoot button (A) until it's fully charged.

How to time a Hyper Strike in Mario Strikers: Battle League

When the shot is charged, a little bar with black, orange, and blue portions appears beneath the player. The goal of this short timing minigame is to press A when the marker is on the blue portions. If you succeed, the goalie will be unable to block your Hyper Strike. You'll still be able to conduct a Hyper Strike if you miss one or both timings, but there's a chance it'll be blocked, with the odds varying depending on whether you hit the orange (medium) or black (worst) region.

If you're having trouble pulling these off, try using a character with a higher Technique stat or equipping some Technique boosting clothing. This will widen the timing windows for Hyper Strikes, making them easier to hit, among other things.
