Mario Strikers Battle League: How to unlock the Trick Gear set

Gear in Mario Strikers: Battle League is about more than just donning goofy-looking futuristic jerseys for your squad (but it is about that too). It's also a terrific tool for maximizing the efficacy of each of your players, whether that means masking a flaw to create a jack-of-all-trades or raising a player's strength to create a powerful specialized. Let's take a look at one of the most useful pieces of gear: Trick Gear.

How to buy Trick Gear

To obtain the Trick Gear set, simply purchase it in the Gear Settings menu, although it will cost you a few coins. At 100 coins per piece, the full set costs 400 coins for any one character, though you won't need the entire set to max out the Trick Gear set's core stat, Technique, on most characters. Consider finishing the Training Match at the end of the game's tutorial to get a few coins immediately. You'll get 800 coins if you win it for the first time. Otherwise, winning Cup Battles, which offer 400 coins the first time you complete them, is a nice method to gain a few more coins.

What Trick Gear does

Each item of Trick Gear you equip increases a character's Technique stat by two points, up to a maximum of 25. It will also reduce another score by two points, albeit the stat for each item of Trick Gear is different. Here are the stats for all of the gear:

• Trick Helmet: +2 Technique, -2 Passing
• Trick Gloves: +2 Technique, -2 Speed
• Trick Pad: +2 Technique, -2 Strength
• Trick Boots: +2 Technique, -2 Shooting

Increasing a character's Technique makes several special moves, such as Perfect Shots, Perfect Passes, and Hyper Strikes, easier to execute. The Technique stat will increase the window for any ability that requires hitting a timing window.
