Minecraft: How to get and use a Sculk sensor

The various Sculk blocks found across the Deep Dark biome in Minecraft each have their own distinct style and gameplay. The Sculk sensor is one of the more prevalent Sculk blocks found in the game, and it works by sending out a Redstone signal. The Sculk block comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, and it can be difficult to figure out which one is which and how they all work together. The Sculk sensor is generally a light teal-blue color that brightens when it is triggered and has four waving parts protruding out of it. Players who aren't sure which Sculk block is the Sculk sensor can use the graphic below to help them figure it out.

Sculk sensors are only found in the Deep Dark biome, as well as the old cities that lie within it. They're also occasionally found in the loot chests that can be found all across old cities. Sculk sensors can be broken with any tool, however, they are mined the quickest with a hoe and will only drop as a full item when mined with a Silk Touch enchanted tool. Otherwise, mining a Sculk sensor will result in a loss of five experience points.

What do Sculk sensors do?

Sculk sensors are blocks that are part of Deep Dark's summoning system for the Warden. They are the block that detects vibrations and subsequently alerts the Sculk shrieker, hence they can be found all across the biome. Within a nine-block radius of each Sculk sensor, vibrations can be detected. A player jumping, a wolf trembling, an explosion occurs, or a door opening is examples of vibrations created by players or other elements.

Sculk sensors will light up when activated by nearby vibrations, indicating that they have sensed anything close. Sculk sensors emit some light before they are engaged, but the quantity of light they emit after activation is significant enough that players can discern the difference. Wool blocks can be used to prevent Sculk sensors from sensing vibrations in the vicinity. When wool is placed between a Sculk sensor and a vibration source, the sensor is unable to detect the vibrations and hence is unable to send a signal to the Warden's Sculk shriekers.
