Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Reveal New Rival Character Nemona
After releasing a completely redesigned Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl late in 2021, followed by Pokemon Legends: Arceus a few months later, the Pokemon franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Arceus, in particular, appears to have taken the Switch community by storm, with one of the most successful launches in the system's history. While many fans expected Nintendo to take a breather after the success of Arceus, the corporation had other ideas.
A month after the release of Pokemon Legends Arceus, the next mainstream games in the long-running franchise were presented in a fresh presentation. The first trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet combined live-action with gameplay excerpts, displaying huge open expanses in a setting clearly inspired by the Iberian Peninsula, as well as a first look at the three starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Following months of silence, a new teaser revealed even more new information about the future game.
The latest trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet shows the player's character encountering Professor Sada and Turo as they begin their trip. Soon after, they come upon Nemona, a mystery girl who appears to be the game's first tutorial combat with a brand-new electric-type enemy. Nemona, it turns out, is the player character's rival throughout Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and she serves as a checkpoint to see how strong players have become at certain stages throughout the campaign.
With her official artwork, the fan-run website Serebii was able to offer an even better look at Nemona. Nemona is dressed in orange shorts, an orange tie, black leggings, and red shoes as if it were a school uniform. Her black hair is pulled back into a ponytail with a smidgeon of green in it. Many have speculated whether her unusual black and the red glove is simply a part of her design or a tool comparable to the Dynamax Band from Sword and Shield or the Z-Ring from Sun and Moon.
The latest Scarlet and Violet clip offered many of surprises for fans, including the reveal of Nemona. In terms of gameplay, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows for a four-player co-op as players explore the open environment. In addition, the legendary Pokemon, Koraidon and Miraodon, serpentine-style animals, were shown off. Both games will be released at the same time at the end of the year, on November 18, 2022, as predicted.
