Scarlet and Violet were first presented in a trailer that primarily featured returning Pokemon, with the new starters revealed at the very end. Trainers will be able to add five more brand-new Pokemon to their collections once the debut of the new game later this year, including the two legendary Pokemon depicted on the box art. Pawmi, an Electric-type Pokemon, is the first new Pokemon seen in the current Pokemon Scarlet and Violet teaser. Since Pikachu, each generation of Pokemon games has featured cute-looking rodent animals, and it appears like Pawmi will fulfill that role in the next games. Pawmi is employed by Nemona in the trailer, who appears to be a competitor character in the new games, however little is known about her personality at this moment.

The trailer then shows Pokemon trainers exploring the open world of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in a variety of settings. One Pokemon trainer may be seen sneaking up on Smoliv, a new Grass/Normal-type Pokemon that is hanging out in a field. Although no combat is seen, the trainer successfully captures Smoliv in a Poke Ball.
