Tornado Storm damage reports are coming in from Monroe County

Following the severe weather that struck Monroe County on Wednesday afternoon, reports of storm damage are starting to come in. A tornado reportedly swept through the area just after 4 o'clock in the afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. It would appear that the tornado left Monroe County after traveling approximately 15 miles northeast from the intersection of Highway 131 and County Highway A, passing Wyeville on its way and passing just north of Shennington.

According to the sheriff's office, there are numerous fallen trees and power lines, as well as damaged barns and roads that are impassable. The areas around Highway 131 near Wyeville and Oakdale appear to have sustained the most damage, as reported by the Sheriff's Office. Power is out across a large portion of the area, and a number of homes have also sustained damage. I-90 was closed for over three hours as a result of multiple semis being blown over onto their sides after being struck by high winds.

During the time that cleanup is taking place, you are asked to stay away from the area. There are still a great number of roads that are inaccessible, and crews are actively working to reopen them. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, there have been no reports of serious injuries or fatalities.
