Star Citizen: How to get rid of Crimestat

Criminal activity is bound to occur as players explore the Star Citizen environment. Whether it's the wrongful killing of an innocent person or plain stealing, these crimes will trigger the Crimestat mechanic, which will effectively place an intergalactic bounty on the offending player's head. However, it is not immediately apparent how to get rid of this bounty. Crimestat can be obtained in a variety of ways, and it can also be removed in a variety of ways. Citizens who have a bounty can pay the fine (assuming the Crimestat is low enough), serve the sentence, or even try hacking the governing satellites and databases to remove the Crimestat completely.

How to remove Crimestat via fines in Star Citizen

Crimestat in Star Citizen is divided into tiers, with higher tiers indicating more (or particularly heinous) crimes. Players with a Crimestat 1 or 2 can pay the price by approaching a reward terminal on a station. As long as the player can afford the fine, the Crimestat is totally erased from the character with minimal impact. However, after players reach Crimestat 2, this method of reducing the penalty is no longer effective. In that situation, gamers might choose between two different options.

Serving your time in Star Citizen

Players with a Crimestat of 2 or higher who are slain by law enforcement will respawn in prison. At the moment, the Klescher Rehabilitation Facility in the Stanton system's Aberdeen is the only prison that has been implemented in Star Citizen. Allowing the turrets at Klescher to eliminate you will also suffice to begin serving a prison sentence if players do not want to perish at the hands of law authorities. Players should use the oxygen terminals and work past the obstacles to get through the sentence as quickly as possible. Check the terminal to see how much time is left to serve, and keep working to advance the timer forward as quickly as possible.

Hacking to remove Crimestat in Star Citizen

Hacking your Crimestat level to erase it is a complex process with many steps, but it's the only option for nefarious pilots to continue their evil ways without having to serve time in society.

Finding cryptokeys

Cubby Blast, Factory Line, and Grim Hex are all places where players can get cryptokeys. Players need to buy at least three cryptokeys from whichever seller is closest to them in order to be successful. These keys will eventually allow players to completely remove their Crimestat, thus astute criminals should familiarize themselves with where they can be obtained.

Blocking bounty hunter trackers

Bounty Hunters use CommArrays, which can be hacked to stall approaching bounty hunters, giving players time to enter protected places and hack databases to delete their names completely. Pilots should dismount from their ship and enter the middle of a CommArray, which can be found in orbit in several places. To begin the process of hacking the maintenance control panel and removing the array from the ECN services, use a cryptokey at the terminal. Players will be told that the hack was successful, implying that they can no longer be tracked in that system. Drones and turrets may engage the player in these restricted locations, thus pilots should be aware.

Hacking the Criminal Database

In Star Citizen, players can breach the Criminal Database in one of four locations:
  • MT Data Center 4HJ-LVE-A
  • Security Depot Lyria 1
  • Security Depot Hurston 1
  • Security Post Kareah
Enter the database with a cryptokey, choose a charge for your pilot, and then choose a cause for charge dismissal. Continue to work your way through all charges until your record, and thus your Crimestat, is clean. It's time to turn a fresh leaf in the cosmos once any of these ways have been performed. Or, at the very least, start a new reign of terror without being followed by bounty hunters.
