Star Citizen: How to open hangar doors
The ability to fly multiple ships across the cosmos is a major selling point for Star Citizen. Exploration has a monumentally significant role in gameplay, with gorgeously detailed galaxies, a litany of ships to experience, and countless stations to become hopelessly lost in. For some, however, simply getting out of a hangar is enough of a challenge. The majority of the time, getting out of hangars is relatively simple. However, just like in video games, the mechanic might occasionally malfunction, leaving the pilot stranded.
360 degrees of confusion
For many newer players, the fact that Star Citizen takes place in space can be confusing. Take the time to look up and down in hangars (and everywhere else) because some landing zones offer a vertical takeoff (ideal for the VTOL function) that appears to lock pilots in. Before stepping into your ship, take a quick look around the hangar to make sure you know where you need to take it. This can save a lot of time (and lives) by preventing players from guessing where the doors are and flying around in circles in a small chamber until they crash spectacularly.
Automatic hangar doors
Many hangars have automatic doors that open and close when pilots prepare to enter and exit with their ships. Pilots should enter their ships, turn on the power, and start the engine after verifying the location of the doors. The hangar doors will automatically open a short time later, giving players a means out of the station. A quick call to air traffic control (ATC) will be sufficient if the doors do not open automatically.
Requesting permission to leave
Players can use their mobiGlass to contact ATC by pressing F1, selecting the Commlink, and then Friends. Players should be able to locate the ATC at the top of the Friends list from this screen. When you select the ATC, the controller will be automatically hailed, and the doors will open. The entire procedure takes only a few seconds, so pilots should make sure their ships are powered up and ready to fly before asking ATC to unlock the hangar doors. Exit the Commlink and fly out into the wondrous galaxy of adventure once ATC has been successfully hailed.
