Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Released Date, Price, Specs, Features, and More Details

Recently, foldable smartphones have been very popular, with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 from last year being one of our top picks. The next model, which might be released as early as next month, is already in the works at the Korean behemoth. Here is all we currently know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Release Dates

Although there hasn't been any official word from Samsung regarding the Flip 4, there have been some rumors regarding possible release dates, and we can also have a look at the previous models to get a general idea. In August of last year, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip 3 alongside the Z Fold 3. This year, it's likely that Samsung will do the same thing and release the Flip 4 at the same time as the Z Fold 4.

Popular leaker Jon Prosser foresaw this exact scenario. According to him, both the Flip 4 and the Fold 4 will be unveiled on August 10; pre-orders will begin that day, and both phones will be on sale on August 26. Although he claims that pre-orders won't actually begin until a few days after the launch, on August 16, Korean leaker Garyeon Han mostly concurs. Since Ross Young, a display industry analyst claimed that Samsung started shipping Flip 4 display panels in April, the August launch seems especially likely. The fact that the Flip 3 started shipping in the same month last year suggests that the company is following the same schedule.

Both the FCC certification from the US and the NBTC certification from Thailand have already been issued to the phone. Neither discloses anything about the phone's specifications, although certification rarely occurs until just before launch. Strangely, Samsung appears to have purchased 8.7 million panels, up from 5.1 million last year, indicating that it expects to sell even more Flips this time around. Elec made similar claims in May, saying that Samsung had started making parts in large quantities with the goal of making more than 10 million foldable phones, 70% of which would be Z Flip 4 models.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Prices

Again, we don't have any confirmed information on the new Flip, so for direction, we'll have to refer to the prior cost. These are the prices upon launch:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – £1,300/€1,349/$1,380
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – £949/$999/€1,049

The decrease in price between the first and second generations is most likely the result of falling production costs. Like any first-generation device, getting the newest technology usually comes at a premium price. Since most high-end smartphones, like this one, cost around £1,000, €1,000, or $1,000 these days, it seems unlikely that Samsung will lower the price much more.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Specs

Of course, for the time being, we are still in the realm of rumor and speculation, which should soon be put to rest with news from Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Build and design

So far, no one has predicted that the Z Flip 4 will significantly differ in design from the Flip 3. The initial renderings of the phone that we've seen, produced by 91mobiles and OnLeaks, reflect this. There are not many modifications to these. According to OnLeaks, the design will be nearly identical to the previous phones, with the exception of a few minor changes to the size, which is now only marginally smaller but thicker at 165.1 x 71.9 x 7.2mm. After the renders, photos of what appeared to be a phone prototype appeared.

The photographs indeed show that the phone has a black finish. This is probably the graphite model that Jon Prosser said would debut along with Bora Purple, Pink Gold, and Blue. Here, the buttons appear a little bigger, the purple appears a little darker, and the cameras appear to protrude just a little bit further from the body of the phone. Although IPX8 water resistance was first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, the same leaker adds improvements to this. We can only guess that alludes to the Flip 3's lacking dust proofing.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Displays

According to the Korean website The Elec, Samsung won't make many changes to the screens, at least not in terms of size. According to the website (and OnLeaks), the inside folding screen will once again be 6.7 inches, but the exterior screen will only marginally increase from 1.83 inches to 1.9 inches. Leaker Chun anticipates the same for the outside display but adds that it might even grow to be larger than 2 inches. Ross Young and Yogesh Brar have already agreed with his prediction, and he says that the outer screen will be 2.1 inches.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Storage, RAM, and the chip

However, it appears more likely that the Flip 4 will use the upcoming 8 Gen 1+, as has been predicted by numerous leakers, including The Galox and Ice Universe. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor in the Z Flip 3 could be upgraded to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is expected to arrive in the near future. More tellingly, the Flip 4's 'taro' motherboard codename disclosed that chip when we saw it in a Geekbench listing for the device. The 8GB of memory and 128/256GB storage options will probably stay the same. However, SamMobile thinks that a new 512GB storage option will be added, which would be a nice change since, like the Z Flip 3, there probably won't be a MicroSD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Cameras

Despite the fact that several prototypes are still in the development phase and some of them still have a punch-hole camera opening, GSMArena has revealed that Samsung will add an under-display selfie camera. This means that Samsung is still evaluating the capabilities of the earlier strategy to see whether it is ready for general use. Yogesh Brar also forecasts a dual-camera setup, which is all that has been depicted in renderings thus far. He anticipates a 10MP front-facing camera and two 12MP back cameras (main and ultrawide). These are the same specifications as the Z Flip3, but even with the same megapixel count, it's possible that there will be more minor changes to the camera technology.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Charger and battery

Chun was the first leaker to say that the battery size would go up by 10–20%, but other leakers said that the battery would be the same size as the one in the Flip 3. However, it appears that his prediction came true since GalaxyClub is now stating that the Flip 4's total battery capacity is 3400mAh, which is a slight 100mAh increase from the Flip 3's 3300mAh battery capacity. Two batteries with the product numbers EB-BF721ABY and EB-BF722ABY were found. These batteries would supposedly be used in the upcoming phone.

Regular leaker Ice Universe is even more upbeat about the battery, projecting a larger increase to a total capacity of 3700mAh, which has now been confirmed by Brar. This is consistent with the battery's 3C certification, which shows a rated capacity of 3595mAh, which is probably equivalent to the average capacity of 3700mAh that Samsung would promote. On images of two batteries thought to be meant for the phone, one with a rated capacity of 2555mAh and the other at 1040mAh, the identical 3595mAh capacity can be observed (remember that the Flip phones used one battery in each half of the body).

While this is going on, a different charger certification with 3C reveals a maximum of 25W wired charging, which is still somewhat slow but a significant improvement over the 15W speed of the Z Flip 3. Additionally, wireless charging is presumably going to come back, albeit at the same slow 10W speed as previously. Since the device is still being developed, many of these rumored characteristics may change. Keep coming back to see what Samsung has in store for you because we'll be updating this story as more details come to light.
