Building a residence for your devoted cult of followers is one of the game's main objectives in Cult of the Lamb. Early on, this is rather simple because there is a ton of open space and only a few buildings. Eventually, though, things become more intricate, and new construction (especially expansive farms) must be carefully planned to ensure that everything operates as it should. Additionally, a tidy village simply looks better.
How to move and destroy buildings
You only need to go to the construction building and enter the menu to relocate or destroy a building. At the bottom of this page, you should notice an option labeled "Edit Buildings" (assigned to the Y button on the Nintendo Switch). Refer to the next section for instructions on how to unlock it if you don't see this option in your menu.
Choosing this will put you in a building editing mode where you can freely alter how your compound is laid out. When choosing a building in this mode, you can either transfer it to another available place or completely remove it from your base. Be aware that some structures in your base cannot be dismantled, and others, such as the shrine and the construction building, are permanently locked in place.
How to unlock the "Edit Buildings" option
Although it's a simple and basic process in Cult of the Lamb, keep in mind that you won't be able to move or destroy buildings right away. You won't have the chance to change your first few structures in any way after building them. You appear to need to unlock and develop a few buildings initially, maybe some of the less important ones. From what we've seen, the option wasn't available until we built an agricultural plot, but related buildings like sleeping bags should also work.
