The Last of Us: Release Date
Early in March 2020, HBO unveiled The Last of Us. The pandemic has, however, caused severe delays. According to Deadline, the series won't debut until 2022. Although we do not yet know the exact month, it will premiere in 2023. According to The Verge, the show has received a series order, which means that there will undoubtedly be more than one episode. Through the Scriptnotes podcast, the creator and producer of the show, Craig Mazin, has said that there will be a total of 10 episodes.

The Last of Us: Cast
Pedro Pascal, best known for his role in The Mandalorian, will play Joel, and Bella Ramsey, best known for her role as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, will play Ellie. Merle Dandridge, who will portray the part of Marlene, has also joined the cast. This is noteworthy since Dandridge also played the part in the video game, and this kind of casting is quite uncommon. Dandridge was used for motion capture in the game, so fans will be happy to see the actress recreate the role in real life. This may also open up more opportunities for other video game voice actresses.
Dandridge is not the only former gamer in the cast, though. Tommy's voice actor, Jeffrey Pierce, will be appearing on the program. Pierce will be portraying a different character on the show, Perry, who is characterized as "a rebel in a quarantine zone," in contrast. Murray Bartlett will be playing Frank, a side character Ellie and Joel meet in Lincoln, Massachusetts. He is an ex-colleague of Joel's who resides in a ghost town. Bill, a different character who was going to be played by Con O'Neill, lives with Frank. He had to withdraw, nevertheless, due to schedule issues. Nick Offerman, a former star of Parks and Recreation, will now take on the role.
Frank and Bill may have formerly been romantically involved, as Neil Druckmann hinted in The Official The Last of Us podcast. This subject may be further addressed in the series. The cast will also include Anna Torv, best known for her work on Mindhunter. According to Variety, she will portray Tess, Joel's sidekick before he travels across the nation with Ellie.
Neil Druckmann, the co-creator and director of the games, and Craig Mazin, the author of Chernobyl, will write the program. Executive producers for the games will be Naughty Dog President Evan Wells and Chernobyl veteran Carolyn Strauss. Wells also worked on Chernobyl. The first director has also been named; in an interview with Discussing Film, Johan Renck stated that he'll be working on "at least the pilot." Breaking Bad and Chernobyl are episodes that Renck has directed before. He will also work as an executive producer with Strauss and Wells.
This will be the first show from PlayStation Productions, which will work with HBO, Sony Pictures Television, and other partners. The Uncharted adaptation, starring Tom Holland, is currently in production by PlayStation Productions and is scheduled for release in theaters in 2021.
The Last of Us Series: Plot
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the program will be focused on the first game's events, but it may also have the potential to include details from the follow-up. We don't yet know how much of the first game's season one will be covered, and it's possible that the writers have additional seasons in mind for the story (which wouldn't surprise us). If you haven't played The Last of Us, it follows Joel and Ellie as they travel across a devastated United States after a modern fungal illness infected the majority of the populace and transformed them into zombie-like monsters. In order to find a cure for the epidemic, the two are looking for a resistance group, but as is to be expected, things aren't quite that easy.
The Last of Us: How to watch
HBO is producing The Last of Us, so we anticipate seeing it on HBO cable channels and the adaptable streaming service HBO Max. HBO is not currently available in the UK, although the program might be syndicated on Sky and Now like other HBO programs have been. Otherwise, there are still options for watching HBO from the UK.
