Sea of Thieves: How to fill and sell Logbooks

A Logbook is located on each captained ship in the Sea of Thieves. The contents of this seemingly innocent book include a thorough accounting of the journeys you and your fellow scoundrels have taken, as well as a record of the distance and number of days you spent sailing and plundering for riches. Only taking a logbook from another crew and selling it for gold is better than filling your own. In Sea of Thieves, this is how logbooks are filled out, stolen, and sold.

Sea of Thieves: How to fill and sell Logbooks

Finding and filling your Logbook

You need to be on a ship that is being captained in order to have a logbook. That denotes a ship that has been paid for rather than a free ship that anybody can launch. As long as you are aboard, it doesn't matter if you are the captain or the crew. Visit your ship after loading in and head to the voyage table to locate your logbook. You can take it up from here and look through it to see how far you've come. The Logbook will automatically measure your advancement in a few different areas while you explore the Sea of Thieves. Every voyage starts with a new logbook, and anyone is welcome to read its entries. Your logbook's information is broken down into the following categories:

  • Ship's History: This includes every action this ship has taken on each voyage. Unless the ship's captain deletes the ship permanently, everything like gold earned and miles sold will continue to accumulate indefinitely.
  • Captain and Crew: Any successes made by a particular crew of sailors will be recorded here. Every crew member's name and the names of their pets will be written down, along with information about how much gold they got and how many journeys they finished successfully.
  • Current Voyage: Achievements from the current session will be listed under Current Voyage. When you log off and start over the following time you set sail, these figures are erased.

Stealing and selling Logbooks

Although keeping a logbook of your experiences is interesting, there are other, more... pirates... ways to have fun with one. Send captained ships to the bottom of the ocean, then retrieve their logbooks and go to the Reapers as they are interested in purchasing stolen logbooks. Remember that you cannot sell your own logbook and that the value is solely based on the number of days spent at sea rather than the quantity of gold acquired. Additionally, it does not transfer over from one session to the next and resets after each ship is sunk.

How much are they going to sell for? The length of time the ship has been at sea before being sunk will determine.

  • Noteworthy: All captained ships start out as noteworthy vessels with logbooks valued at 300 gold.
  • Accomplished: Ships become accomplished on the seventh day at sea, and their logbooks can be purchased for 2,500 gold.
  • Remarkable: Ships that remain at sea for 15 days are given a book that is worth 10,000 gold.
  • Extraordinary: The ship is given extraordinary status, the highest rank, once it goes 20 days without being sunk. You can sell the logbook to the Reapers for a whopping 25,000 gold if you can be the one to sink one of these ships.

A ship that has been at sea for a long time can be an appealing target or someone you'd wish to avoid, depending on your objectives for the evening. Use your spyglass to read the name of the ship, the identity of the captain, and the ship's current tier when you spot a captained ship in the distance. When you know more about the craft, you can decide if it will end up at the bottom of Davy Jones' Locker.
