Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition will be available for modern platforms on November 11th, according to Rockstar Games. These seminal open-world games from the early 2000s will be remastered with improved visuals and revised control schemes, bringing them closer to par with modern action games. Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas — which first appeared on the PlayStation 2 — will be remastered with improved visuals and revised control schemes, bringing them closer to par with modern action games.

The $60 collection will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. On December 7, the consoles will also receive a physical edition.

Along with the announcement of the release date, a new trailer was released, giving us our first look at the game's improved aesthetics and control mechanism, making returning to these old classics even more appealing. Details about this compilation of Rockstar's most popular games have been leaking online for a few weeks, so it's a bit of a shock that we'll be able to get our hands on it much sooner than expected.

The developers included a variety of quality-of-life upgrades to the three games in the Definitive Edition, focused on keeping them authentic to the originals. While it's wonderful to see GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas have improved performance and aesthetics, as well as a new control scheme inspired by Grand Theft Auto V's shooting system, the Definitive Edition isn't a full remake, and it mainly keeps the original's look.

The Definitive Edition is not only the first time that GTA games from the PS2 era have been released on modern systems but also the first time that these games will be playable on a Nintendo console. The last time a Grand Theft Auto game was released on a Nintendo platform was Chinatown Wars for the DS in 2009, which was more of a spin-off that experimented with the dual-screen format of the portable. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas will make their Nintendo console debut with the Definitive Edition. To go along with this, the Nintendo Switch edition adds an exclusive feature that allows you to employ gyro-aiming with the Joy-con controllers, allowing you to aim and drive using the devices' motion.

While the GTA franchise would go on to enjoy massive success with subsequent installments, the three titles included in this collection are the most iconic and popular in the series, helping to establish an entire genre of games. Grand Theft Auto was first released in 1997, but with Grand Theft Auto 3 in 2001, the series became a mainstream hit — and a lightning rod for controversy.

GTA 3 was a landmark point in the video game industry, both pioneering and popularising the framework of what we now refer to as an open-world game. It provided hours of entertainment by allowing players to explore a big city with unparalleled levels of freedom, engage in a variety of activities, and hijack a large number of cars.

The announcement of GTA Trilogy's release date also marks the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3. Along with the release date, Aaron Garbut, Rockstar North's head of development, made some remarks regarding the importance of GTA 3 and how it transformed the company into what it is now.

In addition to the GTA Trilogy, Rockstar Games is working on a Grand Theft Auto 5 update for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One X. GTA V is still Rockstar's most popular game as it approaches its tenth anniversary. Even if speculations about Grand Theft Auto 6 continue to circulate, we can expect to see more of the Grand Theft Auto brand in the future.
