A 9-year-old Astroworld Festival attendee is in a coma, After falling from his father's shoulders in a crowd surge

Following the mass casualty occurrence at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival at NRG Park over the weekend, a young boy is reportedly struggling for his life in a Texas hospital. After being crushed at the hectic event, reporter Stefania Okolie of Houston's ABC 13 posted via Twitter on Monday evening (Nov. 8) that a 9-year-old child named Ezra Blount has suffered organ damage, brain swelling, and is in a coma.

Blount was perched above his father's shoulders during the event, as his father attempted to shelter him from the large crowd rush, which led to numerous injuries, hospitalizations, and eight deaths. During the surge, Ezra's father presumably passed out from the stress, causing the youngster to fall to the ground and be trampled by the crowd.

Okolie tweeted: "We have learned a 9 YO boy is fighting for his life at Texas Children’s Hospital after his family says he was trampled at #AstroWorld -the child was on his dad's shoulders during the crowd surge, his dad passed out from the pressure, his son fell and concert-goers trampled him."

"The child’s family tells me all of his organs are damaged, and he has severe swelling in his brain," she continued. "They pray for a full recovery, which would be a miracle. The 9 YO boy is in a coma right now & brain swelling has gotten progressively worse today after he was trampled at #Astroworld. family does not want his name shared right now, but please lift this child in prayer. He didn’t deserve this. We hear from Grandfather at 5 @abc13houston."

The news reporter added this tweet along with two photos of the Blount: "Please lift this sweet boy in prayer. 9YO Ezra Blount was on his dad's shoulders at #AstroWorld as he tried to protect him from crowd surge. His dad was overcome by pressure, Ezra fell and was trampled. His family says all organs are damaged, brain swelling- praying for a miracle."

Travis Scott's annual Astroworld Festival, which drew 50,000 people, took a sad turn Friday night (Nov. 5) at about 9:15 p.m., when hundreds of fans began squeezing in front of the stage. During a press conference last Saturday morning, Fire Chief Samuel Pea, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, and Houston Police Chief Troy Finner confirmed eight deaths (Nov. 6).

According to a tweet provided by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the eight deceased victims range in age from 14 to 27 years old and have all been identified by their families as of this evening.

Travis Scott revealed earlier today that he will cover the funeral costs for individuals that died during his festival. He's also teamed up with BetterHelp to offer free one-on-one internet counseling. Following the sad occurrence, La Flame is collaborating with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), MHA National (Mental Health America), and MHA of Greater Houston (Mental Health America) to help people find appropriate mental health treatments.

Travis, who has voiced his sorrow and compassion for all who have been affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, issued a statement over the weekend that said, "What happened last night has completely crushed me. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were affected by the Astroworld Festival tragedy. Houston Police Department has my full support as they investigate the awful loss of life. I am devoted to collaborating with the Houston community to help families in need heal and be supported. Thank you to the Houston Police Department, Fire Department, and NRG Park for their quick reaction and assistance. I adore you all."

Additionally, La Flame, who is being sued with Drake, Live Nation, and Score more over injuries incurred at the concert, will be offering refunds to all Astroworld Festival attendees and has canceled his performance at Day N' Vegas on Saturday (Nov. 13).
