Reno 911 Special The Hunt for QAnon Gets Premiere Date on Paramount Plus

The premiere date for "Reno 911: The Hunt for QAnon" on Paramount Plus has been set. The special will premiere on the streaming service on December 23. It follows Reno Sheriff's Department deputies as they search for Q, the mastermind behind all the QAnon plots. Their attempts put them at a QAnon convention at sea, where they eventually escape only to find themselves on Jeffrey Epstein's old island.

Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Niecy Nash, as well as Mary Birdsong and Ian Roberts, who joined the program later in its run, will all appear in the special.

"The Hunt for QAnon" was unveiled in February, just before CBS All Access was rebranded as Paramount Plus. From 2003 through 2009, the show aired on Comedy Central, a ViacomCBS television network. Most of the conversation in the mockumentary series was unscripted, with the cast regularly improvising their lines. "Reno 911! : Miami," a feature film, was released in 2007.

Following Quibi's closure that same year, the show was renewed for a seventh season at Quibi, with the new episodes moving to the Roku Channel. The show's Quibi season was split into two halves, with each receiving two Emmy nominations. Kenney-Silver was nominated for best short-form series and best actress in a short-form series, while the second was nominated in the same categories.

When we spoke with Lennon last year, he indicated that reuniting the team had been extremely difficult due to their conflicting schedules. Carlos Alazraqui is now included on the poster for the upcoming film Quibi, despite the fact that he was not originally featured in the Quibi episodes.

"We definitely had to think about it for a second because it's always been hard to get Reno together mostly because the cast is so egregiously successful on their own. Just to schedule the one time that we wanted to have dinner last Christmas took a while to schedule," Lennon explained.

"It really came about almost 100 percent because of a person named Doug Herzog. Doug is an executive at Quibi, but he also is the person who put The State on the air in the early '90s at MTV. He put Viva Variety on the air at Comedy Central, he put Reno 911! on the air at Comedy Central. Doug has been sort of shepherding Reno 911! for its entire life. Doug then went to Quibi and he's like, 'Why don't you do a new Reno 911!? The shows are going to be 10 minutes long. That's perfect for you guys. Just do it.' We're like, 'Yeah, great. Sure.'"
