Bowling Green: Significant damage after a potential tornado moved through the area

A probable tornado swept through the Bowling Green neighborhood early this morning, causing major damage. South Warren High School is open to anyone in need of immediate shelter. That facility should be operational within the hour.

Emergency teams are analyzing major storm damage, according to Western Kentucky University, and the university is in contact with all residential staff. At this time, there have been no injuries reported on campus.

At this moment, all agencies in the city and county are reacting to the damage, according to Bowling Green Police. Several warehouses at the Industrial Park have "totally fallen," according to police. The park's power is out, making it difficult to see anything at this moment.

Due to the tornado and heavy weather, Bowling Green Police are presently investigating many complaints of building collapses, gas leaks, and extractions throughout the city. The debris in the street is being cleared by all city crews. On Saturday, December 11, WKU will not perform graduating ceremonies. Graduation will be rescheduled, according to university officials.

In the city, 14,000 BGMU subscribers are without power. A telephone outage is now affecting the Medical Center at Bowling Green. Patients are safe, and emergency calls are being answered by EMS.

Officials are advising residents not to drive around assessing the damage. People should not be coming in the way of emergency employees who are outperforming their duties because power lines are down and unsafe, it's raining, and it's quite dark out there. Please remain indoors and safe.
