Out of the Park Baseball 23: How to scout prospects and MLB players

The MLB First-Year Player Draft is an annual opportunity for MLB teams to select the top high school and college players and add them to their farm systems. Teams must conduct extensive scouting each year in order to have the most accurate and up-to-date information on possible draft prospects. Scouting is more than that, though, as MLB teams must also scout professional baseball players who are not affiliated with their team in order to prepare for prospective trade options. Owners of Out of the Park Baseball (OOTP) 23 will be allowed to scout, exactly like a real MLB team, and here's what they'll have to do.

Let's start with some advice for MLB Draft hopefuls. In OOTP 23, go to the MLB portion of the home screen in a game to scout a prospect for the MLB Draft. Then look for an MLB Draft pool. Selecting the 'MLB Draft' page and then locating the pool and all eligible players for the forthcoming First-Year Player Draft should typically suffice.

Find a player you'd like to spy on and either left-click on their name to see their full profile or right-click on their name to go to the quick menu. Select 'Actions' on the right-hand side, then 'Request Scouting Report' while you're in the entire profile. If you right-click on the player, choose 'Request Scouting Report.'

The instructions above also apply to MLB and Minor League Baseball players. Scouting players can be done in a variety of places, including the trade menu. Then, using the same procedure as before, obtain a Scouting Report. In an ideal world, the potential and overall ratings for the players in OOTP 23 should be as accurate as possible. This can be done by looking at the 'Very High' accuracy potential. Yes, the prospects' potentials may vary over time, but this is the most accurate way to assess a prospect before to the MLB Draft.
