V Rising: How to use the Sawmill

The majority of the work in making new objects is done by specialized resource-refining facilities, which automatically break down and reassemble the materials you feed them. The Sawmill is the first of these structures you'll likely come across, and it may be used to refine common Lumber into refined wooden Planks. You've come to the perfect site if you're unsure about how to achieve this. We'll show you how to use the Sawmill in V Rising in detail, as well as how to use all other related buildings in the process. We'll also talk about how to improve the Sawmill and other similar structures to make them even faster and more efficient.

How to use the Sawmill in V Rising

You must first ensure that your Sawmill is fuelled by your Castle Heart before using it. To do so, engage with the Castle Heart and add Blood Essence to it. This will power the Sawmill as well as any other automated structures you've built in your castle. You won't be able to use these structures without Blood Essence, and your Castle Heart will deteriorate. If the Sawmill is activated, all you have to do is interact with it and then drop some lumber into one of the "Input" grid tiles for it to begin turning the timber into refined wooden planks automatically.

You'll see a list of recipes at the top of the window when you interact with a Sawmill or any other resource-refining facility, followed by the "Input" and "Output" grids at the bottom. Each recipe is divided into two sections: the area to the left of the arrow shows what you need to enter into the "Input" grid below, and the section to the right of the arrow shows what you'll get once the building is complete.

In the case of the Sawmill, the first recipe specifies that at least 20 Lumber be placed in the "Input" grid. The Sawmill will automatically break down each 20 Lumber your input, giving you 1 Plank and 1 Sawdust at the end, which you may collect from the "Output" grid. Because each of these resource-refining facilities takes some time to complete, it's a good idea to leave the Sawmill (and other buildings) running while you go about your business. Then go back to it and collect everything in the "Output" grid.

How to upgrade the Sawmill

Three panels can be found at the very top of the Sawmill interaction window:

Buildings that harvest and refine resources, such as the Sawmill, can be improved in V Rising by meeting certain conditions. The first panel merely shows if the Sawmill is fueled by a Castle Heart or not. The second says that confining the Sawmill in a limited space built of stone castle walls and floors will accelerate up to its refinement rate by 25%. The third advises you that installing the suitable type of flooring for that type of building (in this case, Workshop flooring for the Sawmill) will reduce the cost of all the building's recipes by 25%, making it much more efficient.
