Star Citizen: How to fix the friends list being empty error
Unfortunately, due to the vast amount of content in Star Citizen, things can and will occasionally break or otherwise malfunction. One bug that users have reported is that their friend's list in the mobiGlass fails to populate, leaving them unable to contact other players in the game. There are two alternative solutions: one that is rapid and one that is more detailed. Players should work through these in order, though if the problem has been present for a long time, the USER should be consulted.
Fixing the Star Citizen empty friend list in-game
The whole list may fail to populate when you open the mobiGlass and pick the Commlink menu (through F11). The simplest approach to fix this bug is to log out of the game and go back to the menu. Log back into the persistent universe and check the friend's list to see if it's properly populating once players have returned to the menu. Players should be aware that some users believe this fix is only temporary. If the problem persists after you've tried this remedy, or if you can't get the friends list to populate, there's another debugging option that's similar to the Star Citizen Installation Error cure.
Fixing the empty friend list via USER data
A folder called USER exists within the Star Citizen file structure, and it is notorious for corrupting during upgrades and downloads. The more extensive troubleshooting step for getting the friends list to populate properly again is to clear this folder. To begin, close Star Citizen and return to your desktop.
Go to the Star Citizen install folder and look for the 'USER' folder under '.../StarCitizen/LIVE/'. Delete this folder entirely, then restart RSI Launcher and enable it to redownload the necessary files. Players should notice that the friends' list is once again populating properly after reentering the game and selecting the Persistent Universe. Users should contact RSI support if the bug remains after debugging.
