What are the differences between Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet?

The highly anticipated ninth generation of Pokemon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, will be released in November 2022. Pokemon Presents revealed cinematic gameplay in February, showing off a varied range of places like major towns, deserts, woodlands, and a coastal manor, which appears to be where your trainer would begin their adventure. But that and a June preview revealed some key differences between Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, some of which were unique to the franchise.

Player character outfits

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be the first games in the series to have a varied default attire based on which edition you buy. Naturally, depending on whatever version you choose, the hue of your outfit is closer to scarlet or violet.

Pokémon professors

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will each have their own professor for the first time in a mainline Pokémon game. Owners of Pokémon Scarlet will deal with Professor Sada, while those of Pokémon Violet will deal with Professor Turo – as you can see, their aesthetics are radically different.

Version-exclusive Pokémon and cover Legendaries

The major Legendary Pokémon you will face varies on the version you play, as has been the case since Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Players of Pokémon Scarlet will have the opportunity to catch Koraidon, while Pokémon Violet will fight Miraidon. We currently have no information on other version-exclusive Pokemon; this guide will be updated as The Pokémon Company releases more information on the new monsters.

Following the event, the Pokemon Company announced that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be "a fully articulated open world" with Pokemon strolling all around the territory, evoking memories of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Along with gameplay, we learned about the three new starters: Sprigatito, a grass feline-type Pokemon, Fuecoco, a fire type with crocodile, t-rex, and apple traits, and Quaxly, a water type duck with either a pompadour helmet or haircut – yet to be verified.
