Sea of Thieves: How to rename ships and buy a Renaming Deed
In Sea of Thieves, naming your own ship should make you feel proud, but occasionally, names become stale. There are a number of reasons a captain would want to change the name of their ship, including typos, outmodedness, and personal preference. Fortunately, unlike tattoos, ship names are not permanent. However, renaming your ship in Sea of Thieves is not a free service; you must buy an item known as a "Renaming Deed" in order to do so.
Where to buy a Renaming Deed
Visit the Pirate Emporium, which is located above the Order of Souls tent on any outpost. Speak with the store owner and choose to look through their inventory. A Ship Renaming Deed is the first option under the Captaincy tab on the top left. One costs 499 Ancient Coins, the game's premium currency, which you can get from other players. Although you can obtain Ancient Coins through the Plunder Pass, real money purchases will yield the greatest rewards; 499 Ancient Coins are equivalent to about $5 USD.
How to Use a Renaming Deed
Once you've purchased the Ship Renaming Deed, you can only rename your ship in the main menu and outside of a live session. Go to My Ships and choose the ship you want to rename, then scroll down to the third option on the menu, "Rename." You will be prompted to confirm your desire to use your renaming deed. You can only use one renaming deed at a time; if you want to rename the ship after using one, you must purchase another one.
Does Ship progress reset after renaming your ship?
Renaming your ship just changes the name of the ship; it has no effect on any progress made in your ship's log. This will essentially remain the same ship on which you have been traveling.
